…ATL
I’m not talking about the Atlanta airport out of Georgia but a form of prayerful ministry called ‘Ask The Lord’ (ATL).
ATL was my team’s ministry during our last week of ministry in Thailand. Every day, we would wake up, gather together as a team, then Ask The Lord what we do for the day of ministry.
Let me tell you, it was WILD.
At times, it was so encouraging I could bounce off the walls singing God praises. Most times, it was downright terrifying. Here is a testimony from two of my teammates, Emily and Megan, and our team leader, Sadie, on our last day of ATL:
As a team we gathered in our living space. Sadie opened us in prayer; she prayed for our hearts to be opened to hear from the Spirit, the strength to obey, boldness, and for softened hearts in the people we meet. Then, she invited the Holy Spirit to speak to us, and we sat in silence and listened.
In 1 Corinthians, it says we have the mind of Christ. The same Spirit that led Jesus and the apostles in Acts lives within us. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
…And we did hear from the Spirit.
By the Spirit, Sadie felt instructed to an open space or perhaps a park. At the time, we lived in the middle of the city, Chiang Mai. This prompted Emily to a park we felt led to earlier that week—a thirty minute walk. My other two teammates felt prompted by the Spirit to the same café, whereas I felt led to a sit-down environment. Therefore, we split up.
Emily, Megan, and Sadie started the long trek to the park. After a few small, awkward interactions, they struck up another awkward conversation with a group of high school-aged girls, entirely on Google Translate.
After most of the awkwardness had left the conversation, Sadie popped the question…. “Do you know who Jesus is?”
Emily and Megan were appalled by Sadie’s boldness, thinking that the moment wasn’t right or that they would horribly offend the girls.
… Yet the girls weren’t offended or even taken aback, instead they replied in curiosity: “No, who is He?” …for only one of the girls in the group had ever heard that name before.
Then, Sadie, Emily, and Megan continued to share the entire Gospel to them through Google freakin Translate.
… And the girls only responded with more questions.
So, my teammates answered their every question about baptisms, sin, and love, and more.
The girls in the park didn’t accept Jesus as their savior that day, but more importantly, a seed had been planted; for the first time, they heard the name of Jesus. That’s so powerful! I am fully confident that God will continue to pursue these girls.
This is the fruit that comes from obedience to God.
Truthfully, ATL really challenged me, and there is certainly more that I don’t comprehend and don’t know how to apply to my life, in which I desperately need to discuss with God about… but I also learned a lot this week. Most of all, I learned that ATL is just scary bold obedience and a whole lot of humility. The same Spirt that led Jesus and the Apostles leads us—we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2v16). The difference is that Jesus humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death (Philippians 2v8). He didn’t let the fear of failure prevent Him from obeying His Father, nor did He allow the thought of His reputation and image consume Him. If I, too, am invited to put on this spirit of humility, obedience, boldness, and surrenderance, shouldn’t everyday contain little bits of ATL.
Anywho, this is just a bit I have been meditating and praying on. I hope this testimony encouraged you as much as it encouraged me.
I love you all and I miss you! Merry Christmas <3
